OPTIFLEX guided radar (TDR) level transmitters

The OPTIFLEX series consists of guided radar (TDR – Time Domain Reflectometry) level transmitters for continuous contact measurement of liquids, pastes, powders, granules and liquid-liquid interfaces up to 60 m. They are immune to internal tank obstacles, agitators, foam, vapour, dust and buildup. Wide choice of probes for low/high DK, aggressive, high-pressure or high-temperature applications. Outputs: 4…20 mA/HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, PROFIBUS PA; certified ATEX, SIL 2/3, hygienic (EHEDG).

Operating principle

Low-energy electromagnetic pulses are guided along a probe (single/double cable or rod). When the pulse reaches a change in dielectric constant (liquid/gas or interface), part of the energy is reflected back. The time-of-flight of the reflection is measured and converted into distance/level. The measurement is virtually unaffected by density, pressure, temperature, foam, dust or agitators because the field is focused along the probe.
