Ultrasonic Flowmeters KROHNE

KROHNE ultrasonic flowmeters are contactless (clamp-on) or inline instruments for accurate measurement of liquid, gas, and steam flow in industrial processes, energy, and custody transfer applications. They have no moving parts, create no pressure loss, require no maintenance required, and operate in extreme conditions (temperature from -200 °C to +600 °C, pressure up to 490 bar, viscosity up to 1000 cSt). The series includes multi-beam (up to 12 beams) models for high accuracy and custody transfer.

Operating Principle

The flowmeters operate based on the time-of-flight method: ultrasonic pulses are sent by transducers with and against the flow direction. The difference in transit time is proportional to the medium velocity. For liquids, 2–3 beam systems are used; for gases — 1–2 beams. Multi-beam configurations compensate for uneven flow profiles. Additional functions: gas volume correction, mass flow and enthalpy calculation, methane content measurement.

OPTISONIC 3400

3-beam inline flowmeter for liquids (including cryogenic and high-viscosity). Temperature range -200…+250 °C, DN25–3000, pressure up to PN200/ASME Cl 1500. Wide dynamic range, district heating version with thermal energy calculation (MID MI-004).

OPTISONIC 4400

2-beam inline flowmeter for extreme conditions:

  • 4400 HP — high pressure up to 490 bar (condensate, feedwater, reservoir injection).

  • 4400 HT — high temperature up to +600 °C (thermal oil, crude oil).

OPTISONIC 6300P

Portable clamp-on flowmeter with battery power for temporary liquid flow measurement. Diameters DN15–4000, temperature up to +120 °C, data logger, control via mobile app (Bluetooth/USB).

OPTISONIC 6300

Stationary clamp-on flowmeter for liquids without pipeline intervention. Diameters DN15–4000, temperature up to +200 °C, robust stainless steel mounting rail.

OPTISONIC 7300

2-beam inline flowmeter for natural and process gas. DN50–1000, pressure up to PN450, wide turndown ratio, independent of gas composition.

OPTISONIC 7300 Biogas

1- or 2-beam flowmeter specifically for biogas (dry/wet, high CO₂). Integrated volume correction and methane content measurement, turndown 100:1, DN50–200.

OPTISONIC 8300

2-beam flowmeter for superheated steam and cryogenic/high-temperature gases (-200…+593 °C). Optional mass flow and enthalpy calculation, turndown 60:1.

ALTOSONIC V12

12-beam inline flowmeter for custody transfer of natural gas. High accuracy (OIML R137 class 0.5), advanced condition-based diagnostics, DN100–1600, pressure up to PN450.
