I. Signal Protection and Intrinsic Safety (Pepperl+Fuchs)

This is the fundamental basis of protection, ensuring that the electrical energy entering the hazardous area does not exceed the ignition threshold.

• Intrinsic Safety Barriers: Modular systems like the K-System (DIN rail mounted) and H-System (ultra-slim, for mounting on termination boards) limit energy, rendering the electrical circuit Intrinsically Safe (Ex i). They provide galvanic isolation between the hazardous and safe areas, protecting expensive controllers.

• Operating Principle: Barriers are mandatory for connecting any NAMUR devices (inductive sensors, light barriers) in Zone 0/1.
