Solid Flow Meters DensFlow

DensFlow is a contact-free electromagnetic flow meter for continuous measurement of mass flow rates of powders and granules in dense-phase pneumatic conveying. The system consists of a wear-resistant ceramic inner pipe that is flanged directly into the process line (DN 10–125 mm) and the MSE 300 evaluation electronics. It supports unlimited flow volumes, pressures up to 110 bar (HP version) and temperatures up to +80 °C, with accuracy of ±2–5 % in the calibrated range. Outputs: 4–20 mA, Modbus, Profibus; ATEX Cat. 3 (optional Cat. 1).

Operating Principle

A high-frequency (88 kHz) electromagnetic field is generated inside the measuring pipe. Passing particles absorb energy proportional to their concentration (kg/m³). Flow velocity is determined by two electrodes that detect the electrodynamic charge caused by particle impacts (transit-time method). The mass flow rate is calculated using the formula Q = K × V × A (concentration × velocity × cross-sectional area). The measurement is completely contact-free, has no moving parts, is independent of conveying velocity (1–10 m/s) and uses a homogeneous measuring zone for maximum accuracy.

Main Application Areas

  • Fuel injection into blast furnaces or power plant boilers: precise measurement in each individual line for valve control and uniform distribution (up to 20 t/h).

  • Gentle conveying of expensive bulk materials in slow dense-phase mode to optimise velocity and quantity.

  • High-pressure applications (up to 110 bar) in dense-phase pneumatic transport of powders/granules with unlimited throughput.

  • Industries: metallurgy (steel), power generation, chemical, waste-to-energy.

Advantages of DensFlow

  • Contact-free & maintenance-free: no moving parts, ceramic pipe prevents wear and material build-up; no servicing required.

  • Flexibility: independent of conveying velocity, simple retrofit without flow obstruction; unlimited throughput and high pressure capability (110 bar).

  • Accuracy & reliability: ±2–5 % accuracy, easy integration with up to 300 m distance between sensor and electronics.

  • Technical features: IP65 protection, steel/stainless steel construction; real-time interfaces; low power consumption (20 W); ATEX certification for hazardous areas.
