Innovative G20 Ethernet System for Flexible Control of Motorized Rollers in State-of-the-Art Material Handling Systems
With the new G20 Ethernet motor control module, Pepperl+Fuchs is expanding its portfolio with a powerful and flexibly scalable solution for controlling motorized rollers in conveyor technology.
The Ethernet G20 system consists of the Ethernet G20 controller with up to four lines, each comprising 15 G20 motor control modules, with each motor control module providing up to two motor drive connections. This innovative system allows for the flexible control of up to 120 motor drives (MDRs) via a single IP address.
Extended diagnostic data such as current consumption, voltage level, or runtime per MDR provide deep insights into the condition of the application, enabling preventive or even predictive maintenance approaches.
Scalable System for All Conveyor Technology Applications
For each module, you can decide individually whether it is operated in ZPA mode or via the controller (PLC). This allows different requirements to be implemented within a single conveyor line. The mixed use of both module types ensures efficient utilization of the control system: While simple conveyor tasks can be controlled decentrally and quickly within the module itself, the control system remains reserved for complex tasks. Diagnostic data such as temperature and current consumption per module can be accessed both in the control system and via the REST API interface.
ZPA Mode. Ideal for straight conveyor lines without changes in direction. The logic is integrated directly into the module, which shortens cycle times and saves computing power at the control level. At the same time, it also reduces the amount of programming required.
PLC-Controlled Operation. Ideal for transitions, intersections, or junctions where goods are distributed specifically to the left or right. More complex process steps such as barcode scanning or weight recording are handled centrally in this mode.
An Open-Technology, Future-Ready Solution
As a multiprotocol device, the G20 Ethernet motor control module supports the common fieldbus protocols PROFINET and EtherNet/IP. Furthermore, REST API and OPC UA enable seamless IIoT communication. Since both 24-volt and 48-volt motorized rollers are supported, switching between them is possible at any time by simply adjusting the supply voltage.
In addition to the Ethernet version, the G20 portfolio includes other technologies such as ASi, IO-Link, and pure ZPA modules. This allows the right solution to be selected for every application, regardless of existing infrastructure or individual customer requirements.
