Bridge Cranes Without Sway: FR-E800 and Partner HPE Automation
American bridge crane manufacturer Material Handling Systems (MHS), with over 45 years in the market, together with Diamond Elite Partner HPE Automation, replaced expensive laser anti-sway systems with the built-in function of the Mitsubishi Electric FR-E800 frequency inverter.
Previously, laser systems were costly, time-consuming to install, and required specialized personnel. The FR-E800 effectively suppresses load sway during crane stops without additional sensors or manual operator intervention. The cost of this solution is about 10% of the laser system price.
Additionally, the FR-E800 provides vibration suppression, rapid torque buildup, and speed regulation depending on the load.
MHS President Ron Fontes notes that with anti-sway, the company now secures orders that were previously unavailable. The business has grown beyond current capacity, leading to staff expansion. Vice President Henry Manson adds that after switching to HPE and Mitsubishi solutions, they gained "an army of experts" instead of zero support.
The result is up to a 5% productivity increase in busy areas, shorter cycle times (no need to wait for the load to settle), and new applications for bridge cranes.
