Compact, lightweight and excellent price / performance: the new OPTIMASS 5400

KROHNE introduces the OPTIMASS 5400, a new Coriolis mass flowmeter designed for standard process applications with gases and liquids. The new device provides customers with an optimised balance of performance, reliability and cost efficiency.

Suitable for a broad range of industries, including chemical processing, oil and gas, marine, food and beverage, and pharmaceuticals, the OPTIMASS 5400 addresses a wide variety of flow measurement tasks. Typical applications include chemical and hydrocarbon flow control, utility measurement and fuel consumption monitoring. Thanks to its compact design, the flowmeter is also particularly well suited for mobile and skid-mounted systems, trucks, rail tankers and portable process installations.

Developed in response to growing demand for competitively priced instrumentation, the OPTIMASS 5400 bridges the gap between entry-level and premium Coriolis meters. In addition to direct measurement of mass flow, density and temperature, it provides valuable information on volume flow, concentration and flow velocity.

The twin semi-bent tube flowmeter delivers high measurement performance across a wide operating range. It handles process temperatures up to +180°C and pressures up to 100 barg, while the sensor housing provides a typical burst case pressure resistance of up to 200 barg, offering an additional layer of protection and enhanced plant safety. The instrument also delivers excellent mass flow and density measurement accuracy, with an optional mass flow accuracy of ±0.1% for flow rates above 10% of nominal flow.

The OPTIMASS 5400 is based on an innovative, modular production and supply system. This enables optimised processes throughout all production stages, significantly reducing the delivery time of the measuring device. KROHNE aims to consistently achieve a delivery time of two weeks for the standard configuration. OPTIMASS 5400 also comes as a lightweight eco-design that requires significantly fewer materials and components than previous generations of Coriolis flowmeters.

OPTIMASS 5400 features Entrained Gas Management (EGM™) technology, enabling stable measurement across a wide range of gas fractions and complex flow conditions. The technology also provides two-phase flow indication and supports monitoring of gas volume fraction in liquids.

Equipped with modular electronics, the flowmeter supports a comprehensive range of communication protocols, including HART® 7, Modbus, FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus, PROFIBUS-PA/DP, PROFINET, PROFINET over Ethernet-APL and EtherNet/IP™. Three configurable 4…20 mA outputs are available, complemented by integrated Bluetooth® connectivity for wireless access.

Built-in OPTICHECK diagnostics continuously monitor both instrument health and application conditions, providing operators with detailed insights into both the instrument and the process, supporting condition-based maintenance and process optimisation. The flowmeter also enables on-site verification without process interruption, helping operators reduce maintenance effort and increase plant availability.

When used in combination with the OPTICHECK Flow mobile app, the OPTIMASS 5400 enables commissioning, monitoring and field verification to be carried out conveniently and securely via Bluetooth. OPTICHECK DTM is also available for remote access from the control room.

Available in both compact and remote versions, the OPTIMASS 5400 can serve as a flange-to-flange replacement for existing OPTIMASS 1000 series installations.
