Perhaps, the most important process in water treatment is drinking water treatment. According to UNESCO, many parts of the world have big problems with supply of drinking water to the population. Water reserves on the planet are limited, so we use all possible sources. The quality of drinking water directly depends on chosen technologies and cleaning agents. The largest portion of the drinking water is obtained from the groundwater reserves. In the process of treatment of wastewater to obtain drinking water, a flocculation method is used, which principle consists in reduction of haze. With this method, the finest turbid or colloid substances are coagulated from water, which can settle or be filtered. Solids or sediment formed as a result can be separated by sedimentation. The final stages are filtration and disinfection. 

Another source to obtain drinking water is sea water. In this case, the other treatment methods are used, namely desalination. The main element of sea water desalination plants is a reverse osmosis unit. The reverse osmosis allows seawater to flow at high pressure through a semipermeable diaphragm, acting as a filter, letting only ions and molecules of a certain type pass. 

Drinking water quality is determined by several essential parameters. One of the most important of these parameters is pH, which shall be in the range of 6.5-9.5 for the drinking water. Measurement of рН in drinking water is performed with the рН-electrodes together with the instrument transducer. For the drinking water made of sea water, it is necessary to control the conductivity, which indicates desalination degree. Inductive instrument transducer measures the conductivity prior to water entry to the reverse osmosis unit and water discharge from this unit. Besides, it is necessary constantly to measure the level of filter tank filling in the desalination units, the level gauges are used for this. Level gauges with the ceramic capacity cell suit best. The reliable functioning of the reverse osmosis unit and pressure control is ensured by pressure transducer. 

As we know, the most common disinfection agent used for drinking water treatment, is chlorine. And it is very important to control the concentration of disinfectant. Amperometric cells for identification of free chlorine, chlorine dioxide, ozone content with the instrument transducer/control serve best as proper instruments. 

In various production and technological processes, there is a need in ultra pure water. Thus, in the pharmaceutical industry, it would be impossible to manufacture most active substances without it, because high quality of ultra pure water is a condition for production of the final product of consistently high quality. Quality control of ultra pure water on the basis of values of conductivity is the safest and the most reliable method. 

To record measured indicators for their future assessment, the display recorders are used. It’s a simple and reliable way to record and save necessary information.
