Product Introduction Product Group: Inverter Product Line: EFR options (AC Chokes, DV/DT reactors, Sine-wave filters) Part 4

We are pleased to announce the release of new inverter options from the Inverter family.

6. EFR-SI – Sine Wave Filters

6.1 Problems Solved Only by Sine Wave Filters

Unlike dv/dt reactors, sine wave filters:

  • Convert PWM voltage into a near-sinusoidal waveform
  • Virtually eliminate voltage reflections
  • Significantly reduce motor acoustic noise
  • Reduce bearing currents and common-mode effects
  • Improve EMC behaviour

These effects cannot be fully achieved with dv/dt reactors alone.

6.2 Impact on Motor and System Behaviour

Using a sine wave filter results in:

Sinusoidal motor voltage,

Lower motor losses and heating,

Reduced acoustic noise,

Reduced bearing stress,

Improved EMC performance of the drive system.

6.3 Long Motor Cables and PWM Frequency

EFR-SI sine wave filters enable the use of very long motor cables, typically:

  • Up to 1000 m
  • For larger filter sizes and favourable conditions, up to 1500 m *for details please check safety installation manual

Correct operation requires:

  • Compliance with the minimum PWM switching frequency specified for the filter
  • Appropriate parameter settings in the inverter

6.4 Typical Applications

EFR-SI is the only correct solution in applications such as:

Very long motor cable installations,

Retrofit projects with sensitive motors,

Noise-critical environments,

EMC-critical installations,

Applications with high requirements on motor lifetime and reliability.
